Christmas Lights Past

How it Started

2015

Our Christmas light tradition was pretty simple in the beginning with a lighted star of Bethlehem, bush lights, two small blow molds (Santa and Frosty), icicle lights and some lighted wreaths. On/off was by plugging and unplugging extension cords, when we remembered.

2024 – 40 Songs; 22 Controllers (16 RGB); 138 Props

2024 was the introduction of 120 Yard Pixel Stakes (also known as “Peace Stakes”) that made the lawn dance and come to life. To fully appreciate the Pixel Stakes the neighbors field had to be ‘invaded’ with the shifting of the Blasko forest and reindeer deer into.

While the total number of sequences remained steady at a total of 40; 5 sequences were replaced…including Mr. Johnson’s favorite: Little Drummer Boy (Pentatonix version was replaced with the For King and Country that he also did fireworks to in July 2024).

2023 – 40 Songs; 24 Controllers (16 RGB); 133 Props

2023 was a bit of a struggle with medical issues in the Indiana Johnson’s household, but thanks to help from the extended family and neighbors we were able to get it going along with a few upgrades. These upgrades included replacing the traditional bulbs with RGB: large red bows (on the house) and the MegaTree star topper; introducing two new RGB wreaths (HiRes choro props, on the house); and shifting a few props to the pole barn because of some summertime tree removal.

Focus of the sequences was take advantage of the RGB props with 16 sequences refactored.

In the summer of 2023 Indiana Johnson’s Christmas Light Show became a friend of the local Shawnee Theater and sponsored “Legally Blonde the musical” along with putting in a plug for the 2024 season in the Show.

RGB is where you can control the color on each individual light…check it out in the Blue Christmas video with all the BLUE!

The 8 RGB mini-trees are part of the ‘Blasko Forest’! The ‘Blasko Forest’ are the 8 RGB mini-trees dedicated to our always helping neighbor who literally has a forest! A forest is defined as: ‘An environment that is covered by trees over an area of at least 1.2 acres’…you can see some of the real Blasko forest in the upper right of the picture below.

2016 – 13 Songs; 3 Controllers; 44 Props

The beginning of ‘the Engineer’ automating the Christmas lights. Anyone married to an Engineer knows it can never be simply ‘on at dusk/off at dawn’. It was jumping into the deep end of lights synchronized to music.
